# Mirid Desktop for Linux

Preview 1.0.13-93a2897, built for Debian 13 on x86_64 computers with Python 3.13. This is a native desktop window using GTK 3 and WebKitGTK 4.1. It uses hosted model APIs, including NanoGPT and OpenRouter; a GPU and local model downloads are not required. Bring your own provider account and API key. Provider usage can incur charges.

This archive includes the tested native executable, the complete corresponding Mirid source, and pinned Python wheels for offline installation. Internet access is needed for provider requests and to install any missing Debian system packages. Ubuntu, older Debian releases, ARM computers and other distributions are not qualified for this binary.

## Install

Download `mirid-linux-1.0.13-93a2897-debian13-x86_64.tar.gz` and its accompanying `SHA256SUMS` into the same folder. Verify the archive before extracting it:

```sh
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf mirid-linux-1.0.13-93a2897-debian13-x86_64.tar.gz
cd mirid-linux-1.0.13-93a2897-debian13-x86_64
```

Install missing Debian prerequisites if needed:

```sh
sudo apt update
sudo apt install python3 python3-venv libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0 libgtk-3-0t64 libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 libsoup-3.0-0 libsndfile1 gstreamer1.0-plugins-base gstreamer1.0-plugins-good ca-certificates xdg-utils
```

Then install Mirid as your normal user:

```sh
./install.sh --check
./install.sh
```

The installer verifies every packaged file, creates a new private Python environment using the bundled wheels without consulting package indexes, and adds `Mirid Desktop (Linux)` to your application menu. It prints the full `launch.sh` path, which you can run directly. Keep at least 750 MB free for the archive, extracted download and installed app, in addition to Debian prerequisites and your own conversations or uploaded files. Do not run the installer with sudo.

The default installation directory is `$XDG_DATA_HOME/mirid-desktop/releases/1.0.13-93a2897`, or `~/.local/share/mirid-desktop/releases/1.0.13-93a2897` when `XDG_DATA_HOME` is unset. To choose a different new directory, use `./install.sh --prefix /absolute/path/to/Mirid`. Add `--no-desktop` to skip the menu entry. Existing installation directories and menu entries are never overwritten. If installation fails, its new directory has an `.install-incomplete` marker; use a fresh directory for a retry.

## Start chatting

Open Mirid, connect NanoGPT or OpenRouter in provider setup, and select a model. Audio settings support the API edition's hosted speech options. The application stores its settings and conversations locally; prompts and selected attachments are sent to the provider you use. Keys are saved in the local native profile. The archive contains no personal keys, chats, uploaded images or preconfigured provider accounts.

The public preview uses its own profile. The launcher adds `mirid-linux-preview` beneath your XDG config, data, cache and state directories; the native app then uses its `ai.mirid.linux.native` directory there. With the usual defaults, settings are under `~/.config/mirid-linux-preview/ai.mirid.linux.native`, and app data is under `~/.local/share/mirid-linux-preview/ai.mirid.linux.native`. The earlier native and browser installations keep their own storage. No existing keys or chats are copied. Close any running native instance before launching this preview.

To uninstall this release, close Mirid and remove only its versioned installation directory and its `ai.mirid.desktop-linux-1.0.13-93a2897.desktop` file from the XDG applications directory. Your native profile remains available. Removing that profile separately deletes its saved settings and conversations.

## Troubleshooting and source

An unsupported-platform or missing-library message means the installer has stopped before installation. Use Debian 13 x86_64 with the prerequisites above, or consult `BUILD.md` for a source build. Native launcher logs are in `$XDG_STATE_HOME/mirid-linux-preview/ai.mirid.linux.native/desktop.log`, usually `~/.local/state/mirid-linux-preview/ai.mirid.linux.native/desktop.log`. Logs can include provider errors; review them before sharing.

`release.json` identifies the source and executable. `app/` contains the corresponding source, including its lockfiles and tests. Mirid is licensed under GNU AGPL v3; see `LICENSE`. Dependency notices are described in `THIRD_PARTY.md`. This is a preview release, not a signed Debian repository package, and it does not install an automatic updater.
